History

History of the Ministry Commission

The Northwest Suburban Deanery Ministry Commission was formed by the twenty-seven Deanery II parishes in the winter of 1986. The purpose of the Ministry Commission was to provide initial training as well as ongoing formation for all who minister in the deanery. Networks were formed around common ministerial tasks and
met regularly for mutual resourcing and support.

In 1991, an invitation was extended to Vicariate I to participate in the very successful Annual Parish Staff Day. By 1993, Vicariate I had formed its own Ministry Commission. But, due its large geographic area, two Ministry Commissions eventually evolved. Due to further growth within Vicariate I the two deaneries divided again. In the summer of 2007, Deanery A split into Deaneries ABC and Deanery B split into Deaneries DEF.

The Commission continues to exist to encourage participation in Commission events, based on the needs assessment provided by each parish in the Vicariate while providing helpful feedback on the quality and competence of the formation programs.

In 2022, ABC and DEF Ministry Commissions merged to form one Vicariate I Ministry Commission.
