Description:

Director of Development Job Description General Job Description: This position is full-time to lead the resource development efforts of St. Pius V Parish. St. Pius V Parish is a large, active, predominantly Hispanic, immigrant parish and school in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. The development team currently consists of a grants manager and a communications specialist. The Director of Development will supervise these staff and report to the Associate Pastor. The budget for St. Pius V Parish and School is approximately $3 million per year. Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Develops an annual fundraising plan, including prospect research, foundation and corporate grants, individual donations, and other gifts. • Supervisors a development staff of a communication specialist and grants manager. • Secures major gifts as part of operating and permanent capital and endowment fundraising strategies. • Leads the staff through a capital campaign in mid 2015. • Identifies and develops relationships with potential and current funders. • Develops and maintains relationships with current and potential funders. • Researches funding opportunities and helps grant specialist write grants and make reports to funders. • Tracks all necessary information for grants management and reporting. • Supervises staff to assure an up-to-date data base of funders and potential funders. • Supervises the marketing conducted by the communications specialist through website, Facebook, four annual newsletter direct mailing appeals, and promotional materials. • Supervises thank-you replies to funders. • Supervises the development of work plans for the fall Celebrating the Harvest fundraiser. • Develops other special events and oversees the internal and external management of their execution. • Provides St. Pius V program staff with orientation about fund raising and is well informed about staff’s current and projected financial needs. • Represent the parish and its work to participants, visitors and others. • Develops and staffs a parish resource development committee, and provides it with orientation and planning to involve it in resource development. • Attends and participates in required organizational programs and staff meetings. • Maintains required job skills and core professional competencies. • Performs other duties as assigned. Performance Measures • Achievement of annual operating, capital campaign and endowment fundraising goals, including increasing donor base. • Relationships developed and maintained with funders and potential funders. • Complete and accurate record keeping and reporting • Easily accessible, current and accurate files. • Strong communication with staff. • Active participation in staff meetings and programs. Essential Knowledge and Skills Education: Bachelor’s degree Job experiences: Three years of previous experience in development or community relations, including grant writing and relationship building with funders. Special knowledge and skills: Familiarity with Hispanic population served. Excellent writing and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills and a team player, computer literacy in Microsoft Office. Requirements:

Director of Development St. Pius V Parish seeks a Director of Development to lead a team of two other people. St. Pius V Parish is a very active parish with an approximate budget of $3 million that supports the parish school, extensive social services, and pastoral staff. The staff consists of a communications specialist and a grant writer. The new Director should have at least three years of experience in development or community relations and be capable of caring the good news about the work of St. Pius V parish to the larger funding community of Chicago and beyond.
