Description:

The Director of Music and Liturgy is a professional who holds specialized credentials in music and who has a thorough understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy. Potential candidates must be baptized, practicing Catholics. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and pastoral skills and be capable of inspiring the parish community through vocal and instrumental musical accompaniment. Responsibilities of the Director of Music: •Collaborate with the Pastor and other members of the parish staff integrating the music ministry with the overall mission of the parish. •Collaborate with parish and school staff to coordinate and supervise music for all parish liturgical services: five (5) weekend Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, Christmas, the Sacred Triduum, sacramental liturgies, school graduation, etc. •Direct and collaborate with cantors and parish choirs including the Adult, Children’s and Funeral Choir along with the Folk Group and Hand bell ensemble. •Promote good public relations both within and beyond the parish, by involvement in ecumenical, cluster, Deanery and Archdiocesan networks of professional peers. •Attend and participate in monthly Parish Staff Meetings and monthly Parish Liturgy Committee meetings. • Act as a consultant to parishioners for planning sacramental liturgies, e.g. wedding, funerals and memorial masses and assist families with the selection of appropriate music. •Evaluate and select parish music and worship resources. •Attend major parish functions such as the Parish Carnival and Parish Appreciation Dinner. Candidates granted an interview will be required to perform an audition which will include sight-reading, accompany of volunteer musicians, direct a choral ensemble, and play the piano and pipe organ.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Music (or equivalent) with emphasis in Organ Performance or Choral Conducting required. Master’s Degree in Music (or equivalent) with Emphasis in Organ Performance or Choral Conducting preferred. 3 - 5 years minimum experience. Proficiency with the pipe organ and piano and also should be comfortable singing. Ability to arrange vocal and instrumental pieces is desirable. A flexible schedule and a willingness to work with dedicated volunteers. Completion of Archdiocesan requirements for employment including those of the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth including a criminal background check and Virtus certification.
